Currently in Displayr, when categories are excluded from an average calculation, they are correctly removed from the average base but can still remain included in the percentage base. This behavior is correct and intended.
However, this can sometimes create confusion for users, as the base size displayed in the table reflects the average calculation base, even though the percentages are calculated on a different (larger) sample size.
A useful enhancement would be to provide an option that allows users to choose which base size should be displayed in the table, for example:
Show percentage calculation sample size, or
Show average calculation sample size
This would improve transparency for users and help avoid confusion when percentages and averages are calculated using different underlying sample sizes due to category exclusions.
Example use case:
A user excludes “Don't know” or “Not applicable” from the average calculation but still wants those responses included in the percentage distribution. The percentages are then calculated on a larger base than the average, but the displayed base may reflect the smaller average base, which can appear inconsistent.
Providing an option to select which base to display would make the output clearer and easier for users to interpret.
