If you have a document that has multiple data sets, can the default setting be that the data sets are collapsed? This means you can then easily navigate to the data file you are interested in rather than having to scroll through the various data files to reach the one you want to work with.

If there is only 1 data file in the document then automatically expand that so that the user can see the variable(s)/variable sets.
