Add new value to Value Attributes through Import
S
Shamrock Cardinal
Desired Outcome:
Ability to add a new Value/Label to the code frame of a variable/variable set using
Export
and Import
buttons in Value Attributes
. A variable has
Value Attributes
like this:You export to excel and add one or more new codes:
Then use the
Import
button to add that code to your Value Attributes.More detail:
This functionality would help greatly with documents using a datasource without meta data (such as excel) because the Value Attributes would be created from responses selected in the data rather than total possible responses. Users who get interim .sav files with incomplete Meta Data who want to fully setup their Meta Data before receiving the final file will benefit. This need also comes up from time to time when the Meta Data in the final dataset is less than ideal - such as the instance of the zendesk ticket attached, you could skip creating and lining up the many dummy variables in the Data Sets tree.

Import Value Attributes for Codes not found in data

When copying a data between data sets or using data files without meta data (like csvs and excel), would be great if you could import a code frame in bulk or copy from an existing variable. Currently you can’t add in additional codes that aren’t found in the data itself without a custom QScript which isn’t available to most people in Displayr.
This would be really great for users with preliminary data from their survey (and a crappy data provider) and for people with non-.sav files.

Ability to add Value attribute category to variable.
This would allow the user to modify the variables in a way that they values match and can be used in Stacking.

Ability to create variables with categories that have no data

Numeric data converted to Categorical will only retain the categories that have data. The customer wishes to have a way for these variables to be able to retain a range of categories even when there is no data to allow for matching merged categories across different questions.
In the screenshot, 11-15 is missing because there are no numbers in this range.

Add Value Attribute to variable(s)
D
Due Salmon
Currently have to use a custom QScript or a back-coding trick (which isn’t always applicable) to add missing values to the value attributes of questions. Need an easier way to do this like importing through the value attributes dialogue or uploading a file in bulk to change multiple values at once
