Often you get a lot of warnings and you realise you’ve made a mistake. But you can’t stop the update and have to go through with it, consequently causing lots of issues and errors which can only be repaired by reverting to a previous version from the Version History, or by then loading the correct file (which may revert a lot of work on the variables that were broken, e.g. labelling etc.)

The “Data Difference” warning dialog should have a button to give the option to “Cancel Update” to help minimise re-work if the wrong file is selected or there are some unexpected differences.
